Week 14 - Third Round Playoffs


The Super Seven is approaching soon! Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *   Congrats to the AISA state champions. Bessemer Academy defeated Monroe Academy 28-7 to claim the AAA title. Autauga Academy eased by Escambia Academy 28-21 for the AA championship. Marengo Academy beat Chambers Academy 34-33 for the Class A title.

   *  Piedmont defeated Weaver 52-28 in the quarter-finals of the state playoffs. They extend their state leading winning streak to 23 straight.

   *   Beauregard extends their string of 24 consecutive home wins after defeating Carroll 56-21 on their home turf.

   *   Maplesville has won 17 consecutive games on their opponent's home turf after outscoring Sweet Water 60-34 on Friday night. They are the road warriors.

   *   Fyffe, who defeated LaFayette and 53-20, extended their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 224 games without being shutout.

   *   Beauregard, Mobile Christian, Park Crossing, Ramsay and Wenonah will venture into new territory this coming week. None of the  teams have ever reached the Semi-finals of the state playoffs.

   *   Other teams reaching the Semi-finals after a long absence include: Aliceville (2000), Lanett (1994) and Ohatchee (1977).

   *   Linden has scored 750 points this season. The record is held by Demopolis when they racked up 761 in 2004. If the Red Devils can muster a couple of touchdowns against the Maplesville defense next Friday they will own the record.
