Week 2

The 2016 season is underway! Here are a few tidbits after two weeks of football action from around the state.

   *  Mae Jemison of Huntsville picked up their first victory ever on the football field in an impressive 48-28 win over Tanner. Asbury, the other new participant this year, did not fair so well in their first venture on the field as they lost to Woodville.

   *  Through the first two weeks of the season, Alabama has held their own in the battle of with other states on the gridiron. Alabama has a 18-15 record against the other states with a 4-2 records against Florida, 3-1 versus Mississippi, 3-4 against Tennessee and 6-8 against Georgia.

   *  The Leeds Green Wave extended their state leading winning streak to 14 after defeating Cleburne County 33-18. Bessemer Academy leads all AISA schools with a streak of 15 consecutive wins following a 35-0 win over Cornerstone Christian.

   *   Edgewood Academy lost their second consecutive game. The last time that happened was back in 2008. Spanish Fort averted losing their second game in a row by defeating their rival Daphne by a score of 26-7. Tanner lost their third game in a row. Something the Rattlers have not done since the 2001 season.

   *   Auburn was shutout by Opelika 28-0. The last time the Tigers were shutout was back in 2006. It was the 91st meeting between the two schools with Opelika holding a 46-42-3 advantage in the rivalry series. Sidney Lanier blanked Sumter County 21-0 to register their first shutout since the 2008 season.

   *   Jackson defeated Clarke County in the 101st meeting between the two schools. The Aggies have a 65-29-7 advantage in one of the oldest series in the state. Russellville beat Deshler in the 90th meeting between the two teams. The Foley Lions came from behind to defeat the Fairhope Pirates to claim the Blue & Gold trophy in the 94th meeting of the series. Hamilton defeated Sulligent for the 17 consecutive time and leads the series 61-21-2.

   *   Barbour County leads the state with a string of twenty-four straight losses following a 41-6 loss to Randolph County. Russell County is also on a 24 game losing streak.

   *   Bullock County has also lost 46 consecutive region games and will begin region play this week.

   *  The Guntersville Wildcats have won 29 straight regular season games after defeating Oneonta 20-0. They are well short of the 56 game mark set by Prattville a few years ago.

   *   Tanner has a streak of 47 consecutive region wins but do not appear to be as strong as they have been in recent history. The Rattlers open region play this week.

   *   Guntersville still leads with a string of 20 consecutive home wins after their road victory in Oneonta.

   *   Madison Academy had won 23 straight road games before falling to Ensworth TN 20-16 on Friday night. The new leader is Red Bay with a string of 15 consecutive games won away from their home turf.

   *   The Clay-Chalkville Cougars have scored at least twenty points in 79 straight games following a 33-30 slugfest with Bessemer City. That is a state record.

   *   Fyffe, who beat Geraldine 48-14, extended their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 207 games without being shutout.

   *  Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 176 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs fell to Allen TX 25-7 on Friday.

   *   Just for fun.... Hewitt-Trussville outscored Manatee FL 78-56 in the fourth highest scoring game by both teams in the state's history. The leader in this category is a game from 2003 where Parrish defeated Hubbertville by a score of 81-58.

   *   Escambia County finally reached the magical 500 number in all-time victories with a 24-16 win over Wilcox Central.

   *   Coach Tuberville at Monroe Academy won his 100th game as a head football coach after a 21-14 victory over Lee-Scott Academy. His overall record stands at 100-25.
