AHSFHS.org Report
(Sept. 23, 2016)

Week 6

The regular season is more than halfway over. Teams are prepping for the playoffs! Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *  Piedmont assumed the AHSAA lead for consecutive wins last week and defeated the previous leader, Leeds, this week 29-14 to extend their winning streak to 16 straight. Bessemer Academy leads all AISA schools with a streak of 19 consecutive wins following a 34-0 win over Deerfield-Windsor GA.

  *  Check out the best region in any classification! Region five in class 3A has compiled a record of 26-11. Take away their region games and they are an amazing 17-2 against outside competition. The two losses came this week as Glencoe and Pleasant Valley lost.

  *  What's up in Isabella? The Mustangs lost their last eight games last year on the way to a 1-9 season. They turned it all around this year with a 5-0 record and are second in the state is scoring offense averaging 54.6 points a game. The school has won ten games in a season (2002) only once in their history.

  *  Grissom has lost their last three games by scores of 67-14 to Huntsville, 62-13 to Hewitt-Trussville and 60-19 to Gadsden City. Only two teams have allowed more than 60 points in four consecutive games. Central Hayneville did it in 2009 and Woodville accomplished the dubious feat the same year. Grissom did not play on Friday but take on a hot James Clemens team this week.

  *  Along those lines, J.F. Shields is still struggling to field a football team. They have allowed more than 50 points in nine consecutive games. That ties the record set by R.C. Hatch during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

  *   Chelsea defeated #10 Gardendale on Friday. It marks their first victory over a ranked team since the 2006 season.

   *   Russell County leads the state with a string of twenty-eight straight losses following a 34-13 loss to Chilton County.

   *   Bullock County has lost 48 consecutive region games.

   *   G. W. Long squeaked by New Brockton 31-28 to extend their 29 game regular season winning streak.

   *   Tanner has a streak of 49 consecutive region wins. The Rattlers will resume region play next week.

   *   St. Paul's with a streak of 20 straight wins on the home field did not play this week.

   *   Red Bay, with a string of 17 consecutive road victories, leads all other football teams as road warriors. They beat Belmont MS 21-13 on the road.

   *   Fyffe, who beat Plainview 35-0, extended their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 216 games without being shutout.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 180 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs seem to be in playoff mode following a 62-7 thumping of Tuscaloosa County.

   *   Albertville joins the ranks of schools which have accumulated 500 wins on the football field. Their overall record according to our research stands at 500-460-45. The Aggies defeated Boaz 46-0 on Friday night.

   *   Swane Morris, the head football coach at Gaston, picked up his 100th win Friday with a 25-17 victory over Ranburne.
