AHSFHS.org Report
(Oct. 1, 2016)

Week 7

The playoffs are just a month away. Teams are prepping for the post season! Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *  Piedmont extended their state leading winning streak to 17 with a 49-15 victory over Weaver. Bessemer Academy saw their AISA leading 19 game winning streak come to an end against Autauga Academy by a score of 21-7.

  *  Check out the best region in any classification! Region five in class 3A has compiled a record of 30-14. Take away their region games and they are an amazing 18-2 against outside competition. The two losses came last week as Glencoe and Pleasant Valley lost.

  *  Grissom has lost their last four games by scores of 67-14 to Huntsville, 62-13 to Hewitt-Trussville, 60-19 to Gadsden City and 69-7 to James Clemens. Only two other teams have allowed more than 60 points in four consecutive games. Central Hayneville did it in 2009 and Woodville accomplished the dubious feat the same year. Grissom plays at Buckhorn the week.

  *  Along those lines, J.F. Shields is still struggling to field a football team. They have allowed more than 50 points in ten consecutive games. That breaks the record set by R.C. Hatch during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

   *   B.T. Washington with a 4-2 record is off to a great start in 2016. They are 2-2 in region play and with another region win could qualify for the playoffs for the first time in school history. They need to pick up a win over Greenville or Carroll. The team has also never won more games than they lost in any season since the school opened in 1991.

   *   Other teams with turnaround seasons include: Arab (1-9) to (5-2), Dale County (1-9) to (5-2), Houston County (0-10) to (4-3), Isabella (1-9) to (6-0), Lynn (1-9) to (6-1), Oxford (3-7) to (7-0) and West Morgan (0-10) to (4-3). Congrats to these teams on great seasons in 2016 thus far.

   *   Russell County leads the state with a string of twenty-nine straight losses following a 51-7 loss to Stanhope Elmore.

   *   Bullock County has lost 49 consecutive region games.

   *   G. W. Long thrashed Ariton 43-7 to extend their 30 game regular season winning streak.

   *   Tanner has a streak of 50 consecutive region wins. The Rattlers defeated Cleveland 58-20 to extend this streak.

   *   St. Paul's with a streak of 20 straight wins on the home field and beat Jackson 28-21 on the road.

   *   Red Bay, with a string of 17 consecutive road victories, leads all other football teams as road warriors. They lost to Lamar County 21-20 at home.

   *   Fyffe, who beat Sand Rock 43-7, extended their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 217 games without being shutout.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 181 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs seem to be in playoff mode following a 62-7 thumping of Tuscaloosa County.

   *   Charles Henderson joins the ranks of schools which have accumulated 500 wins on the football field. Their overall record according to our research stands at 500--352-22. The Trojans defeated Trinity 42-9 Friday night.

   *   Steve Smith, the head football coach at Piedmont, won his 200th game Friday night. His overall record stands at 200-68 in 22 seasons at Piedmont and Cedar Bluff.

   *   Trent Taylor at Andalusia also won his 200th game on Friday. His overall record stands at 200-124 in 29 seasons at Kinston, Straughn and Andalusia.

   *   Tim Perry, the head football coach at Wetumpka, picked up his 100th win Friday with a 35-10 victory over Pelham. His overall record stands at 100-97.
