Week 12 - First Round Playoffs


The Playoffs are HERE! On to the Next Round!. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *  Piedmont defeated Holly Pond 55-26 in the first round of the state playoffs. They extend their state leading winning streak to 21 games as they embark upon reaching their goal of another state championship in 2016.

   *   Barbour County leads the state in most consecutive losses with 31 in a row. They will need to wait until next season to break the streak. . 

   *   Bullock County has lost 52 consecutive region games.

   *   G. W. Long heads to the post season with a state leading 34 game regular season winning streak.

   *   Tanner has a streak of 53 consecutive region wins.

   *   Beauregard extends their string of 22 consecutive home wins after thrashing Dallas County in the first round on their home turf.

   *   Maplesville has won 16 consecutive games on their opponent's home turf. They are the road warriors.

   *   Fyffe, who defeated Horseshoe Bend by a score of 56-7, extended their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 222 games without being shutout.

   *   T.R. Miller fell to Wicksburg 34-28. It is only the third time since the 1984 season that the Tigers lost a first round game.

   *   A few teams were unable to break into the win column this past weekend. B.T. Washington entered the playoffs for the first time in school history but was unable to come away with their first playoff victory. 

   *   Carroll picked up their first playoff win since the 1989 season. New Brockton got their first post season victory since 1999. Park Crossing garnered their first ever playoff win.

   *   Blount will be in search of their first 2nd round victory since 1998. Enterprise (1993), Etowah (1999), Goshen (1991), LaFayette (1991), Montevaool (1984), New Brockton (1988), Oakman (1995), Scottsboro (1997), Sylvanis (1995), Tallassee (1999), Wenonah (1993), West End (1994), West Limestone (1988) and Wicksburg (1998).

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 186 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs lost to Grayson GA.

   *   Coach Jason Allen won his 100th games according to our records. His record at Chambers Academy and Glenwood School stands at 100-72 in 15 seasons as a head coach in Alabama.

   *   A total of six head coaches sit on 99 wins this week. A couple will continue to play next week in the post season.

 * Oak Mountain set a team record in a 63-21 loss to Hewitt-Trussville breaking the previous record set in a loss to Hoover 60-0 on 9/10/2010.

 * Northside Methodist Academy set a team record in a loss 69-3 to Bessemer Academy breaking the previous record set when they lost to Edgewood Academy 63-6 on 10/10/2014.
