 2017 Preview

Lincoln completed the 2016 season with a 4-8 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region four, the Golden Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Lincoln reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Jackson by a score of 52-7.

The Golden Bears lost as many games as in any season since 2010. The defense allowed a team record 394 points last season.

Lincoln was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Golden Bears want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.4 points a game.

Since 2010, Lincoln has gone a combined 33-46. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Lincoln has managed to compile a record of 151-144. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 5A and 179th in the AHSAA.

Brad Wallace leaves Lincoln after four seasons with a 19-26 record including 2-3 in the playoffs. He returns to Washington County (Ga.) where he worked prior to coming to Lincoln.

Matt Zedaker has been named as the head football coach at Lincoln for the upcoming season. He most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the Sylacauga Aggies. He was at the school for the past 17 years.

The Lincoln Golden Bears will play in Class 5A region four during the 2017 season.

The Golden Bears will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region four this season.

The Golden Bears open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Leeds on Friday, August 25 at Homer Smiles Field. Last year the Leeds Greenwave finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in third place in Class 4A region three. The Greenwave lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Andalusia by a score of 40-0.

Lincoln and Leeds have met a total of 18 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 5-13-0 record against the Greenwave. They last met in 2016 with Leeds winning by a score of 21-7.
