Hueytown completed the 2016 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region five, the Golden Gophers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Hueytown's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Gardendale by a score of 28-26. The Golden Gophers improved in 2016 with their first winning season since 2012. It marked the first time since the 2012 season that the Golden Gophers qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, Hueytown has gone a combined 48-31. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 6A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hueytown has managed to compile a record of 124-144.
