2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fairhope finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Fairhope finished eighth in Class 7A region one with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Fairhope took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2006. The Pirates lost as many games as in any season since 2006. Fairhope was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Pirates want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.4 points a game. Since 2010, Fairhope has gone a combined 53-28. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 7A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Fairhope has managed to compile a record of 154-131. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 7A and 139th in the AHSAA. The Pirates are led by head coach Tim Carter who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-12 over the past two seasons at Fairhope. The Pirates have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Carter. Coach Carter's overall record as a head football coach in fifteen season stands at 106-65 (62.0%). His 106 wins rank th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Carter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won four region championships. The Pirates hope to rebound from their first losing season since 2006. Coach Carter will be looking for improvement in 2017. The Fairhope Pirates will play in Class 7A region one during the 2017 season. The Pirates have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-46 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 7A and 25th in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Pirates if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just 2 wins last year, Fairhope will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Pirates open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent St. Pauls on Friday, August 25 at Fairhope Municipal Stadium. Last year the St. Pauls Saints finished with an overall record of 9-4 and in second place in Class 5A region one. The Saints lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Jackson by a score of 35-9. Fairhope and St. Pauls have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Pirates have a 5-9-0 record against the Saints. They last met in 2016 with St. Pauls winning by a score of 41-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
