Daphne completed the 2016 season with a 9-3 record. With their 7-1 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region one, the Trojans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Daphne reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Opelika by a score of 35-6. The defense was very stingy last season as Daphne ranked 17th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.7 points a game. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Daphne has gone a combined 63-21. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 6A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Daphne has gone a combined 221-91. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 6A and 27th in the AHSAA. The Trojans have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2009. The Trojans are led by head coach Kenny King who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 9-3 record in his first season at Daphne. The Trojans saw improvement from a 6-5 record the season before coach King arrived. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach King. Coach King's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 9-3 (75.0%). The Trojans rebounded from from two early season losses to win nine game sin a row and Coach King hopes to continue that success this year. The Daphne Trojans will play in Class 6A region one during the 2017 season. The Trojans enter the 2017 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. The Trojans should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 1997 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2017. Junior Mike Franklin returns after gaining 378 yards on 68 carries last year. He also scored six touchdowns. The Trojans open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Davidson on Thursday, August 24 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Last year the Davidson Warriors finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in second place in Class 7A region one. The Warriors lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Auburn by a score of 34-10. Daphne and Davidson have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 13-7-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2016 with Davidson winning by a score of 35-28. Daphne returns 6A All-State Junior punter Diego Guajardo. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Trojans also return Senior defensive lineman Marese McBride.
