 2017 Preview 


       Carroll completed the 2016 season with a 12-1 record. The Eagles cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Carroll captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Eagles since the 1989 season. Carroll lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Beauregard team by a score of 56-21.

       No team at Carroll ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The 453 points scored by the Eagles last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2012 season that the Eagles qualified for the playoffs. The Eagles hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach McDonald saw improvement as they won twelve games following a 5-5 record in 2015.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Carroll ranked 20th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.2 points a game.

       Since 2010, Carroll has gone a combined 32-42. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Carroll has managed to compile a record of 94-175. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 5A and 322nd in the AHSAA.

       The Eagles are led by head coach Roger McDonald who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-21 over the past four seasons at Carroll. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach McDonald.

       Coach McDonald's overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 70-49 (58.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach McDonald's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won two region championships.

       The Carroll Eagles will play in Class 5A region two during the 2017 season.

       The Eagles enter the 2017 season riding a 13 game regular season winning streak. They have won 10 straight games on their home turf at Matthews Stadium.

       The Eagles should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Eagles open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Daleville on Friday, September 1 at Warhawk Stadium. Last year the Daleville Warhawks finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 3A region two. The Warhawks lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Bayside Academy by a score of 21-14.

       Carroll and Daleville have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 8-4-0 record against the Warhawks. They last met in 2016 with Carroll winning by a score of 49-13.

       Carroll returns 5A All-State Senior defensive lineman Tim McClendon. He was named to the second team last season.
