2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Headland finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Headland finished seventh in Class 5A region two with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rams have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Rams last playoff victory came during the 1988 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Headland was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.1 points a game. Since 2010, Headland has gone a combined 26-45. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 5A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Headland has not won much with a record of 83-181. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 5A and 340th in the AHSAA. The Rams have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Scott Glenn leaves Headland after just two seasons with a 7-13 record. Danny Raines leaves Berry after fourteen seasons as the winningest coach in school history. His record of 102-59 includes a dozen playoff appearances and nine post season victories. His teams also won ten games on three different occasions. Coach Raines' overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 102-59 (63.4%). His 102 wins rank 12th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Raines' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won one region championship. The Headland Rams will play in Class 5A region two during the 2017 season. This season, the Rams will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. The Rams open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Dale County on Friday, August 25 at Warrior Stadium. Last year the Dale County Warriors finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 4A region two. The Warriors lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to UMS-Wright by a score of 36-0. Headland and Dale County have met a total of 78 times on the football field. The Rams have a 42-35-1 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2016 with Headland winning by a score of 14-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
