 2016 Preview 


       Lanett completed the 2015 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Lanett just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region five with a 3-3 region record.

       Since 2010, Lanett has gone a combined 33-28. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Lanett has managed to compile a record of 148-129. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 2A and 159th in the AHSAA.

       The Panthers are led by head coach Clifford Story who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 39-33 over the past seven seasons at Lanett. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Story.

       Coach Story's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 39-33 (54.2%).

       The Lanett Panthers will play in Class 2A region five during the 2016 season.

       The Panthers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season. Lanett missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season this year.

       The Panthers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Valley on Friday, August 19 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Valley Rams finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 6A region three. The Rams closed out the regular season with a loss to Prattville by a score of 34-7.

       Lanett and Valley have met a total of 92 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 32-58-2 record against the Rams. They last met in 2015 with Valley winning by a score of 35-6.

       Lanett returns 2A All-State Junior receiver Anquaevious Pollard. He was named to the first team last season. The Panthers also return Senior defensive lineman Khalif Kellum. He was named to the honorable mention team. The Panthers also return Senior defensive lineman Travon Mathis. He was named to the first team.

       College prospects include: Travon Mathis (6-3, 240) defensive end,

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
