2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Valley finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Valley just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region three with a 2-4 region record. The defense allowed a team record 356 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Valley averaged scoring just 11.0 points a game. The Rams also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 35.6 points a game. Since 2010, Valley has gone a combined 32-33. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 5A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Valley has managed to compile a record of 156-125. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 5A and 122nd in the AHSAA. Marshon Harper resigned following the 2015 football season at Valley. He will remain with the school as the head basketball coach. Harper led the football program at the school for four seasons with a 17-25 record and a couple of playoff spots. Only one of his teams managed to finish with a winning record. Bradley Lowe is the new head football coach at Valley for the 2016 season. Lowe is a graduate of Tallassee and served as the defensive coordinator at Gadsden City in 2015. Lowe served as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Northview from 2012-14 before moving on to Gadsden City last year. He coached safeties at Prattville for three years, coached defensive backs and receivers at Thompson from 2008-09 and was the coached defensive backs at Tallassee from 2001-07. The Valley Rams will play in Class 5A region four during the 2016 season. The Rams may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 6A to 5A. They will compete in region four this year. It will be an uphill battle for the Rams if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. The Rams open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Lanett on Friday, August 19 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Lanett Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region five. Valley and Lanett have met a total of 92 times on the football field. The Rams have a 58-32-2 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2015 with Valley winning by a score of 35-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hamilton shutout an amazing 14 consecutive opponents from 1928-1930. A streak that will never be matched in modern football.
