 2016 Preview

Fyffe completed the 2015 season with a 13-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region seven, the Red Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. The Red Devils won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 2A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Elba at the Alabama Super Seven 36-22 in Auburn.

The defense was very stingy last season as Fyffe ranked 18th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 11.9 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Red Devils have gone 28-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Fyffe has gone a combined 71-8. Their 90.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Fyffe has gone a combined 233-71. Their 77.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 2A and 7th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1996.

The Red Devils are led by head coach Paul Benefield who is entering his twentieth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 195-41 over the past nineteen seasons at Fyffe. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of eighteen times. They have won eleven region crowns with Coach Benefield. Coach Benefield led Fyffe to a state championship in 2014.

Coach Benefield's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-four season stands at 240-52 (82.2%). His 240 wins rank 6th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Benefield's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-two times and won thirteen region championships. He has a 34-21 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches.

The Fyffe Red Devils will play in Class 2A region six during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Red Devils remain in 2A but move from region seven over to region six.

The Red Devils enter the 2016 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. They have won 7 straight games on their home turf at Long-Ridgeway Stadium.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Fyffe has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Red Devils should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Red Devils are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Red Devils have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2000 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Red Devils have put together a streak of 19 consecutive winning seasons and hope to extend that streak in 2016.

The Red Devils open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Geraldine on Friday, August 26 at Long-Ridgeway Stadium. Last year the Geraldine Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 3A region seven. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Winfield by a score of 34-7.

Fyffe and Geraldine have met a total of 82 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 45-35-2 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2015 with Fyffe winning by a score of 33-14.

Fyffe returns 2A All-State Senior running back Dilan Kilpatrick. He was named to the first team last season.
