 2016 Preview 


       Handley completed the 2015 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region three, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Handley's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to UMS-Wright by a score of 20-8.

       The Tigers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Strain saw improvement as they won eight games following a 3-7 record in 2014.

       Since 2010, Handley has gone a combined 48-23. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Handley has managed to compile a record of 176-113. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 4A and 85th in the AHSAA.

       The Tigers are led by head coach Larry Strain who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-3 record in his first season at Handley. The Tigers saw improvement from a 3-7 record the season before coach Strain arrived. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Strain.

       Coach Strain's overall record as a head football coach in seventeen season stands at 110-89 (55.3%). His 110 wins rank 44th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Strain's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times and won two region championships.

       The Handley Tigers will play in Class 4A region three during the 2016 season.

       The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Tigers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Callaway GA on Friday, August 26 at Wright Field.
