2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Decatur completed the 2015 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Decatur just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region eight with a 2-4 region record. The Red Raiders hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 9-4 record in 2014. Since 2010, Decatur has gone a combined 39-28. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 6A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Decatur has managed to compile a record of 187-99. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 6A and 55th in the AHSAA. The Red Raiders are led by head coach Jere Adcock who is entering his twenty-first season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 149-81 over the past twenty seasons at Decatur. Under his direction the Red Raiders have qualified for the playoffs a total of seventeen times. They have won seven region crowns with Coach Adcock. Coach Adcock's overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 149-81 (64.8%). His 149 wins rank 23rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Coach Adcock needs only one win this season to reach the 150 win milestone. The Decatur Red Raiders will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2016 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Red Raiders could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Decatur came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Red Raiders open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Huntsville on Thursday, August 25 at Shorty Ogle Stadium. Last year the Huntsville Panthers finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 7A region four. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Florence by a score of 31-21. Decatur and Huntsville have met a total of 92 times on the football field. The Red Raiders have a 52-34-6 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2011 with Huntsville winning by a score of 24-10. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
