2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Florence completed the 2015 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Florence finished sixth in Class 6A region eight with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Florence took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2010. The Falcons hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 11-3 record in 2014. Since 2010, Florence has gone a combined 42-26. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 6A over the past six seasons. Over the past 12 seasons, Florence has managed to compile a record of 79-54. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 6A and 100th in the AHSAA. The Falcons are led by head coach Jason Wallace who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-9 over the past two seasons at Florence. Under his direction the Falcons have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Wallace. Coach Wallace's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 15-9 (62.5%). The Florence Falcons will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2016 season. The Falcons have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 64-40 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 6A and 25th in the AHSAA. With a little luck and some improvement, the Falcons could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Florence came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. Quarterback Monte Turner returns for his senior season after completing 86 of 136 passes for 1,019 yards and 6 touchdowns as a junior last season. The Falcons open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Clay-Chalkville on Friday, August 19 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Clay-Chalkville Cougars finished with an overall record of 14-1 and in first place in Class 6A region six. The Cougars lost in the Class 6A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Spanish Fort. They final score was 31-28 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn. Florence and Clay-Chalkville have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 2-3-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2014 with Clay-Chalkville winning by a score of 35-21. Florence returns 6A All-State Senior defensive back JMarick Woods. He was named to the first team last season. College prospects include: JMarick Woods (6-3, 205) safety, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
