 2016 Preview

Huntsville finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Huntsville finished sixth in Class 7A region four with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Panthers lost as many games as in any season since 1992.

Huntsville was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Panthers want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.2 points a game.

Since 2010, Huntsville has gone a combined 31-35. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 7A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Huntsville has managed to compile a record of 145-126. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 7A and 141st in the AHSAA.

The Panthers are led by head coach Clint Woodfin who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Huntsville. The Panthers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Woodfin.

Coach Woodfin's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%).

The Huntsville Panthers will play in Class 7A region four during the 2016 season.

The Panthers enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just 2 wins last year, Huntsville will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Panthers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Decatur on Thursday, August 25 at Shorty Ogle Stadium. Last year the Decatur Red Raiders finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 6A region eight. The Red Raiders ended last season on a positive note with a win over Oxford by a score of 35-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Huntsville and Decatur have met a total of 92 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 35-51-6 record against the Red Raiders. They last met in 2011 with Huntsville winning by a score of 24-10.

College prospects include: Matthew Nowlin (5-11, 189) quarterback,
