 2016 Preview

Buckhorn completed the 2015 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 7A region four, the Bucks earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Buckhorn's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hoover by a score of 38-7.

The Bucks last playoff victory came during the 2005 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Since 2010, Buckhorn has gone a combined 30-34. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 7A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Buckhorn has managed to compile a record of 127-141. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 7A and 221st in the AHSAA.

David OConnor will return to Giles County TN as the head football coach in 2016. He went 75-17 in seven seasons at the school and won a state championship in 2009.

His teams at Buckhorn finished with three consecutive 6-5 records and first round playoff losses.

He also served as the head coach at Lee Huntsville for four seasons with a 26-17 record between 2002 and 2005.

John Holladay will return to the sidelines in 2016 as the head football coach at Buckhorn after three seasons away from the game. He is a graduate of Graceville FL and played football at UAB prior to receiving his degree from the school.

Holladay went 52-20 overall and 5-6 in the playoffs in six seasons at Walker. His previous head coaching stops were at Clay-Chalkville (2005-06, 19-5 record), Hamilton (1999-2004, 47-24 record) and Brilliant (1996-98, 12-18 record).

His record stands at 130-67 overall and 13-13 in the playoffs in 17 seasons as a head coach.

Coach Holladay's overall record as a head football coach in seventeen season stands at 130-66 (66.3%). His 130 wins rank 35th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Holladay's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times and won three region championships.

The Buckhorn Bucks will play in Class 7A region four during the 2016 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Bucks if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. Unfortunately, Buckhorn finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason.

Quarterback Dalen Morris returns for his senior season after completing 115 of 206 passes for 1,547 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior last season. He also rushed for another 539 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Running back Dallin Woodley returns for his senior season after rushing for 640 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2015.

The Bucks open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Hazel Green on Friday, August 26 at Bob Grimwood Stadium. Last year the Hazel Green Trojans finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 7A region four. The Trojans lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Spain Park by a score of 31-7.

Buckhorn and Hazel Green have met a total of 62 times on the football field. The Bucks have a 38-23-1 record against the Trojans. They last met in 2015 with Buckhorn winning by a score of 38-14.

Buckhorn returns 7A All-State Senior athlete Will Ignont. He was named to the first team last season.

College prospects include: Aaron Zawacki (6-1, 196) outside linebacker, Dalen Morris (6-0, 195) quarterback, Will Ignot (6-2, 238) inside linebacker,
