2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Douglas finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Douglas finished eighth in Class 5A region seven with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 514 points last season. The Eagles have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1998 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Douglas averaged scoring just 10.4 points a game. The Eagles also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 51.4 points a game. Since 2010, Douglas has gone a combined 22-48. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 5A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Douglas has not won much with a record of 72-190. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 5A and 350th in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Brad Pounds leaves Douglas after just one season with a 1-9 record. Bryan Jennings arrives at Douglas after spending the past two years as an assistant at Sardis. He was the head football coach at Susan Moore from 2007-20014 where his teams went a combined 44-42 in eight seasons. His Susan Moore teams went 9-3 in back-to-back seasons and won consecutive region championships. Coach Jennings' overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 44-42 (51.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jennings' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won two region championships. The Douglas Eagles will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2017 season. This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. The Eagles open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent D.A.R. on Friday, September 1 at Louisa St Clair Athletic Field. Last year the D.A.R. Patriots finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 4A region seven. The Patriots ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brindlee Mountain by a score of 56-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Douglas and D.A.R. have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 4-12-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2016 with D.A.R. winning by a score of 45-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
