2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
D.A.R. finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year D.A.R. finished seventh in Class 4A region seven with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Patriots have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017. The Patriots hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just two games which followed a 8-3 record in 2015. D.A.R. struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.1 points a game. Since 2010, D.A.R. has gone a combined 26-47. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 11 seasons, D.A.R. has managed to compile a record of 44-69. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 4A and 291st in the AHSAA. The Patriots have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Bobby Rhoades leaves D.A.R. after three seasons for a position in Georgia. His teams finished with a combined 12-19 record. The 2015 squad went 8-3, losing in the first round of the playoffs. Joel Poole will lead D.A.R. onto the football field this year. He is a former coach at Albertville, Madison County and Pleasant Valley. His overall record stands at 59-69 in a dozen seasons as a head coach. Coach Poole's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 59-69 (46.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Poole's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won one region championship. The D.A.R. Patriots will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2017 season. This season, the Patriots will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. Junior Brayden Lewis returns after catching 30 passes for 424 yards and 2 touchdowns. Also returning is Sophomore Payton Rhoades returns after catching 34 passes for 444 yards and 5 touchdowns. Will Bailey returns for his Junior season after completing 102 of 168 passes for 1,337 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also rushed for 117 yards. The Patriots open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Douglas on Friday, September 1 at Louisa St Clair Athletic Field. Last year the Douglas Eagles finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 5A region seven. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to J.B. Pennington by a score of 48-14. D.A.R. and Douglas have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 12-4-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with D.A.R. winning by a score of 45-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
