 2017 Preview 


       Sardis completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Sardis just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region seven with a 2-4 region record.

       Since 2010, Sardis has gone a combined 39-34. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sardis has managed to compile a record of 104-165. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 4A and 288th in the AHSAA.

       The Lions are led by head coach Gene Hill who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 35-28 over the past six seasons at Sardis. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Hill.

       Coach Hill's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 80-57 (58.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Hill's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won three region championships.

       The Sardis Lions will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2017 season.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. Sardis missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2017.

      Junior Drew Vaughn returns after rushing for 584 yards on 102 carries and scoring 7 touchdowns.

      Logan Gaskin also returns for his Senior season after completing 88 of 168 passes for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also rushed for 670 yards and another 9 scores.

       The Lions open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Plainview on Friday, August 25 at Plainview Stadium. Last year the Plainview Bears finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 3A region seven. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Colbert County by a score of 31-20.

       Sardis and Plainview have met a total of 22 times on the football field. The Lions have a 4-18-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2016 with Plainview winning by a score of 20-6.
