 2017 Preview 


       Grissom finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Grissom finished eighth in Class 7A region four with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The defense allowed a team record 503 points last season. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2004 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Grissom averaged scoring just 10.1 points a game. The Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 50.3 points a game.

       The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 0-20 record. Since 2010, the Grissom football program has struggled with a record of 6-64.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Grissom has not won much with a record of 90-180. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 7A and 333rd in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2005.

Eddie Stewart leaves Grissom after three seasons with a dismal 1-29 record. He leaves a program that has struggled to find any success the past few years winning just one game the past four years.


Chip English arrives from West Caldwell High in Lenoir, N.C where he rebuilt the football program. He will need to do the same for a football program at Grissom that has struggled for many years to find a winning formula.



       Grissom would just like to be competitive. The Tigers have won one game over the course of the past four seasons and only six in the past seven years. They begin the season with their eighth different head coach since 2008.

       The Grissom Tigers will play in Class 7A region four during the 2017 season.

       The Tigers enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 20 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Grissom will be to simply win some games.

       The Tigers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Arab on Friday, August 25 at Milton Frank Stadium. Last year the Arab Arabian Knights finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 5A region seven. The Arabian Knights lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Brooks by a score of 56-30.

       Grissom and Arab have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 5-5-0 record against the Arabian Knights. They last met in 2016 with Arab winning by a score of 20-7.
