2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Buckhorn completed the 2016 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Buckhorn finished sixth in Class 7A region four with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bucks last playoff victory came during the 2005 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Buckhorn has gone a combined 35-39. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 7A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Buckhorn has managed to compile a record of 132-146. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 7A and 209th in the AHSAA. John Holladay leaves Buckhorn after a single season with a 5-5 record. He accepted the head coaching job at Tuscaloosa County. Keith Henderson returns to the area as the head coach at Buckhorn for the 2017 football season. Henderson previously served as the head coach at Sparkman and Grissom. He spent the past five years as an assistant at Arab. Henderson is a 1985 graduate of Butler High and Jacksonville State. Coach Henderson's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 11-39 (22.0%). The Bucks begin the season with their fifth head coach in the past eight seasons. The Buckhorn Bucks will play in Class 7A region four during the 2017 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Bucks if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. The Bucks open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Hazel Green on Friday, September 1 at Tommy R. Ledbetter Stadium. Last year the Hazel Green Trojans finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 6A region eight. The Trojans ended last season on a positive note with a win over Oak Mountain by a score of 30-28 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Buckhorn and Hazel Green have met a total of 62 times on the football field. The Bucks have a 38-23-1 record against the Trojans. They last met in 2016 with Buckhorn winning by a score of 35-15. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
