Hewitt-Trussville completed the 2016 season with a 11-1 record. The Huskies cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Hewitt-Trussville captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 7A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Huskies since the 2008 season. Hewitt-Trussville reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Gadsden City by a score of 29-28. The Huskies won as many games as in any season since 1992. The 552 points scored by the Huskies last year were a team record in a single season. The Huskies hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Floyd saw improvement as they won eleven games following a 6-5 record in 2015. The high-scoring Hewitt-Trussville offense ranked 7th in the AHSAA. They averaged 46.0 points a game. Since 2010, Hewitt-Trussville has gone a combined 48-30. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 7A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hewitt-Trussville has managed to compile a record of 181-104. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 7A and 61st in the AHSAA. The Huskies are led by head coach Josh Floyd who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-12 over the past three seasons at Hewitt-Trussville. Under his direction the Huskies have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Floyd. Coach Floyd's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 22-12 (64.7%). The Huskies had a great season in 2016 finishing 11-1, the second most in school history. Coach Floyd seems to have found a winning formula at Hewitt-Trussville. The Hewitt-Trussville Huskies will play in Class 7A region four during the 2017 season. The Huskies enter the 2017 season riding a 10 game regular season winning streak. The Huskies should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Senior Elliott Mcelwain returns after rushing for 604 yards on 90 carries and scoring 7 touchdowns. He also caught 54 passes for 771 yards and another eight scores. Senior Logan Pitts returns after catching 36 passes for 568 yards and 5 touchdowns. The defense returns Senior CB Trevor Sisk who registered 71 tackles and 4 interceptions last season. The Huskies open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Holy Trinity FL on Friday, September 1. This will be the first meeting between Hewitt-Trussville and Holy Trinity FL on the football field. Hewitt-Trussville returns 7A All-State Senior running back Elliott McElwain. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
