2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Francis Marion finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Francis Marion finished seventh in Class 2A region four with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rams have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Francis Marion averaged scoring just 10.1 points a game. The Rams also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 39.5 points a game. Since 2010, the Francis Marion football program has struggled with a record of 19-52. Over the past 25 seasons, Francis Marion has not won much with a record of 80-174. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 2A and 334th in the AHSAA. The Rams have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2000. The Rams are led by head coach Grady Griffin who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Francis Marion. The Rams have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Griffin. Coach Griffin's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 1-9 (10.0%). The Francis Marion Rams will play in Class 2A region four during the 2017 season. The Rams enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Rams will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. The Rams open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Ellwood Christian on Friday, September 1 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Ellwood Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 1A region three. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Southside Selma by a score of 60-0. Francis Marion and Ellwood Christian have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Rams have a 4-3-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with Francis Marion winning by a score of 20-22. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
