2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Falkville finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Falkville finished sixth in Class 2A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Blue Devils hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 9-3 record in 2015. Since 2010, Falkville has gone a combined 33-40. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 2A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Falkville has managed to compile a record of 106-164. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 2A and 293rd in the AHSAA. The Blue Devils are led by head coach Joel Schrenk who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 31-22 over the past five seasons at Falkville. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Schrenk. Coach Schrenk's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 31-22 (58.5%). The Falkville Blue Devils will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2017 season. The Blue Devils have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 59-53 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 2A and 105th in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Blue Devils if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. Aaron Dove returns for his Junior season after completing 85 of 144 passes for 983 yards and 8 touchdowns. Senior Caleb Vinson also returns after rushing for 1,121 yards on 185 carries and scoring 18 touchdowns. He also gained 149 yards receiving. The Blue Devils open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Decatur Heritage Christian on Friday, August 25 at Burl Vest Stadium. Last year the Decatur Heritage Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 1A region seven. The Eagles lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 48-12. Falkville and Decatur Heritage Christian have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 6-2-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with Falkville winning by a score of 20-19. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
