 2017 Preview

Vinemont finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Vinemont finished seventh in Class 3A region six with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Eagles last playoff victory came during the 1993 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Vinemont struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.2 points a game.

The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Vinemont has gone a combined 24-46. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Vinemont has managed to compile a record of 112-146. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 3A and 253rd in the AHSAA.

Matt Norris leaves Vinemont after just two seasons with a 3-17 record.

Vinemont promoted Stephen Robinson who served as the defensive coordinator the past two seasons to the position as head football coach during the summer.

The Vinemont Eagles will play in Class 3A region six during the 2017 season.

This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six.

The Eagles open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Good Hope on Friday, September 1 at Eagle Stadium. Last year the Good Hope Raiders finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 4A region six. The Raiders closed out the regular season with a loss to Hanceville by a score of 32-13.

Vinemont and Good Hope have met a total of 48 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 16-32-0 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2016 with Vinemont winning by a score of 14-7.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
