2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jackson-Olin finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Jackson-Olin finished sixth in Class 6A region five with a 3-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Mustangs have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1999 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Mustangs last playoff victory came during the 1997 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Jackson-Olin was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Mustangs want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.3 points a game. Since 2010, the Jackson-Olin football program has struggled with a record of 15-45. Over the past 25 seasons, Jackson-Olin has not won much with a record of 87-166. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 6A and 323rd in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 1999. The Mustangs are led by head coach Tim Vakakes who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-22 over the past three seasons at Jackson-Olin. The Mustangs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Vakakes. Coach Vakakes' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 8-22 (26.7%). The Jackson-Olin Mustangs will play in Class 6A region five during the 2016 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Mustangs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. The Mustangs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Woodlawn on Friday, August 19 at J-O Field. Last year the Woodlawn Colonels finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 6A region six. The Colonels closed out the regular season with a loss to Ramsay by a score of 43-8. Jackson-Olin and Woodlawn have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 9-17-1 record against the Colonels. They last met in 2013 with Jackson-Olin winning by a score of 13-7. College prospects include: Tadarian Moultry (6-2, 225) inside linebacker, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
