 2016 Preview

Flomaton completed the 2015 season with a 10-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region one, the Hurricanes earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Flomaton lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good G.W. Long team by a score of 35-21.

Since 2010, Flomaton has gone a combined 45-24. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Flomaton has managed to compile a record of 148-120. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 3A and 129th in the AHSAA.

The Hurricanes are led by head coach Doug Vickery Jr. who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 70-41 over the past ten seasons at Flomaton. Under his direction the Hurricanes have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Vickery Jr..

Coach Vickery Jr.'s overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 96-79 (54.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Vickery Jr.'s teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times .

If Flomaton can win four games this season, Coach Vickery Jr. will reach the 100 win milestone.

The Flomaton Hurricanes will play in Class 3A region one during the 2016 season. The Hurricanes move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. Flomaton will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

The Hurricanes should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

The Hurricanes open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Calhoun on Friday, August 19 at Hurricane Field. Last year the Calhoun Tigers finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 2A region three. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Francis Marion by a score of 56-8.
