2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Calhoun finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Calhoun finished eighth in Class 2A region three with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. No team at Calhoun ever lost more games in a season than the ten they lost last year. The last time they lost as many was back in 2004. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1999 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Calhoun averaged scoring just 11.8 points a game. The Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 48.5 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Calhoun football program has struggled with a record of 10-50. Over the past 25 seasons, Calhoun has not won much with a record of 54-197. Their 22.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 2A and 372nd in the AHSAA. The Tigers have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 1999. The Tigers are led by head coach Hense Ellis who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 1-19 over the past two seasons at Calhoun. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ellis. Coach Ellis' overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 1-19 (5.0%). The Calhoun Tigers will play in Class 2A region three during the 2016 season. The Tigers enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Calhoun will be to simply win some games. The Tigers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Flomaton on Friday, August 19 at Hurricane Field. Last year the Flomaton Hurricanes finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in third place in Class 2A region one. The Hurricanes lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 2A playoffs to G.W. Long by a score of 35-21. Calhoun and Flomaton have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 0-3-0 record against the Hurricanes. They last met in 2009 with Flomaton winning by a score of 48-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
