Brooks completed the 2015 season with a 11-2 record. Last year Brooks captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Brooks lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Fayette County team by a score of 19-12. The Lions hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Black saw improvement as they won eleven games following a 5-5 record in 2014. Since 2010, Brooks has gone a combined 47-22. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 5A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Brooks has managed to compile a record of 190-97. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 5A and 50th in the AHSAA. The Lions have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1998. The Lions are led by head coach Brad Black who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 11-2 record in his first season at Brooks. The Lions saw improvement from a 5-5 record the season before coach Black arrived. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Black. Coach Black's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 11-2 (84.6%). The Brooks Lions will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2016 season. The Lions move up in classification to Class 5A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Lions have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-41 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 5A and 23rd in the AHSAA. The Lions enter the 2016 season having won 7 straight region games. The Lions should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Lions open the 2016 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Andalusia on Saturday, August 20 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Andalusia Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 11-2 and in first place in Class 4A region two. The Bulldogs lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Munford by a score of 33-31. This will be the second meeting between Brooks and Andalusia on the football field. The Lions have a 0-1-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in with Brooks returns 4A All-State Senior running back Deondre Hampton. He was named to the second team last season.
