 2016 Preview

With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region 2, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Straughn reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Munford by a score of 25-15.

Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Straughn has gone a combined 50-22. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Straughn has managed to compile a record of 171-112. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 3A and 94th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers are led by head coach Chris Wilson who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-6 record in his first season at Straughn. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wilson.

Coach Wilson's overall record as a head football coach in six seasons stands at 62-18 (77.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wilson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won two region championships.

The Straughn Tigers will play in Class 3A region 2 during the 2016 season. The Tigers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region 2 this year.

The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the Region 2 championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

The Tigers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Brantley on Friday, August 26 at Antioch Municipal Stadium. Last year the Brantley Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 1A region 2. The Bulldogs lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Linden by a score of 41-0.

Straughn and Brantley have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 5-9-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2016 with Straughn winning by a score of 49-48.
