 2016 Preview 


       Last year Sheffield finished fifth in Class 3A region 8 with a 3-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.  The defense allowed a team record 370 points last season.

       Since 2010, Sheffield has gone a combined 31-35. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sheffield has managed to compile a record of 139-136. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 2A and 189th in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs are led by head coach David Hufstedler who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 27-28 over the past five seasons at Sheffield. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hufstedler.

       Coach Hufstedler's overall record as a head football coach in five seasons stands at 27-28 (49.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Hufstedler's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

      

      The Sheffield Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region 8 during the 2016 season. The Bulldogs may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 3A to 2A. They will compete in region 8 this year.

       The Bulldogs have a good chance to earn one of the playoff slots for Region 8 this season.

       The Bulldogs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Wilson on Thursday, August 18 at Walton R. Wright Stadium. Last year the Wilson Warriors finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 4A region 8. The Warriors lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cleburne County by a score of 31-12.

       Sheffield and Wilson have met a total of 22 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 16-6-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2018 with Sheffield winning by a score of 22-6.

       Sheffield returns 3A All-State Senior defensive back Malik Smith. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
