 2016 Preview

With their 3-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region 5, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. LaFayette's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Fyffe by a score of 50-15.

Since 2010, LaFayette has gone a combined 22-40. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, LaFayette has managed to compile a record of 111-142. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 2A and 244th in the AHSAA.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach James Lucas who is entering his second season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-14 over the past two seasons at LaFayette. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lucas.

Coach Lucas's overall record as a head football coach in six seasons stands at 30-35 (46.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Lucas's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship.

The LaFayette Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region 5 during the 2016 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Bulldogs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in Region 5 this season.

The Bulldogs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Dadeville on Friday, August 19 at Bulldog Stadium. Last year the Dadeville Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-6 and in third place in Class 4A region 3. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Andalusia by a score of 44-26.

LaFayette and Dadeville have met a total of 52 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 18-32-2 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2020 with Dadeville winning by a score of 18-7.

LaFayette returns 2A All-State Senior athlete JaTarvious Whitlow. He was named to the first team last season.
