 2016 Preview 


       Last year Houston Academy finished fifth in Class 2A region 2 with a 3-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Houston Academy has gone a combined 35-25. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Houston Academy has managed to compile a record of 151-106. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 3A and 103rd in the AHSAA.

       The Raiders are led by head coach Jim Addison who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 59-33 over the past nine seasons at Houston Academy. Under his direction the Raiders have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times. They have won one region crown with Coach Addison.

       Coach Addison's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen seasons stands at 104-77 (57.5%). His 104 wins rank 48th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Addison's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won four region championships.

      

      The Houston Academy Raiders will play in Class 3A region 2 during the 2016 season. The Raiders move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Raiders if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in Region 2 this season.

       The Raiders open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Geneva County on Friday, August 19 at Westgate Park. Last year the Geneva County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in seventh place in Class 2A region 2. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Slocomb by a score of 43-6.

       Houston Academy and Geneva County have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Raiders have a 8-4-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2016 with Houston Academy winning by a score of 28-19.
