 2016 Preview 


       Georgiana completed the 2015 season with a 11-2 record. Last year Georgiana captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Panthers since the 1998 season. Georgiana lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Maplesville team by a score of 36-28.

       The Panthers won as many games as in any season since 1995.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Georgiana ranked 16th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 11.7 points a game.

       Since 2010, Georgiana has gone a combined 26-38. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Georgiana has managed to compile a record of 139-134. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 1A and 176th in the AHSAA.

       The Panthers are led by head coach Ezell Powell who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-12 over the past three seasons at Georgiana. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Powell.

       Coach Powell's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 22-12 (64.7%).

       The Georgiana Panthers will play in Class 1A region two during the 2016 season.

       The Panthers enter the 2016 season having won 9 straight region games.

       The Panthers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

      Running back Cameron Longmire returns for his junior season after rushing for 1,060 yards and 6 touchdowns as a sophomore last year.

      Quarterback Jamichael Stallworth also returns for his senior season after completing 55 of 78 passes for 1,034 yards and 7 touchdowns as a junior last season.

       The Panthers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Loachapoka on Friday, August 19 at Loachapoka Stadium. Last year the Loachapoka Indians finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in second place in Class 1A region three. The Indians lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Marengo by a score of 30-26.

       Georgiana and Loachapoka have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 3-0-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2007 with Georgiana winning by a score of 17-0.

       Georgiana returns 1A All-State Junior linebacker Cameron Longmire. He was named to the first team last season.
