 2016 Preview

Brantley completed the 2015 season with a 10-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region two, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Brantley lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Linden team by a score of 41-0.

Over the past two seasons the Bulldogs have gone 22-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Brantley has gone a combined 66-12. Their 85.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Brantley has gone a combined 256-65. Their 80.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 1A and 3rd in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2001.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach Ashley Kilcrease who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 33-7 over the past three seasons at Brantley. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Kilcrease.

Coach Kilcrease's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 33-7 (82.5%).

The Brantley Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region two during the 2016 season.

The Bulldogs enter the 2016 season riding a 7 game regular season winning streak.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Brantley has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1996 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Bulldogs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Straughn on Friday, August 26 at Antioch Municipal Stadium. Last year the Straughn Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 4A region two. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Munford by a score of 25-15.

Brantley and Straughn have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 9-5-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 1997 with Brantley winning by a score of 14-13.

Brantley returns 1A All-State Senior athlete Jacob Free. He was named to the first team last season. The Bulldogs also return Senior receiver Tommy Spivey. He was named to the first team.

College prospects include: Jacob Free (6-5, 200) quarterback, Tommy Spivey (6-0, 160) receiver,
