 2023 Preview

Geneva completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Geneva finished sixth in Class 4A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Geneva has gone a combined 58-75. Their 43.6% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Geneva has managed to compile a record of 158-111. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 4A and 99th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers will be under the direction of new head football coach Jamel Harris as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Harris spent six of his last eight years with Geneva City Schools as linebackers coach with the previous two seasons being spent as the defensive coordinator at Geneva. The Panthers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 68-47 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 4A and 26th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season.

The Panthers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Headland on Friday, August 25 at J.J. Yarbrough Stadium. Last year the Headland Rams finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 5A region two. The Rams lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to UMS-Wright by a score of 56-13.

Geneva and Headland have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 21-10-0 record against the Rams. They last met in 2022 with Headland winning by a score of 36-28.
