 2023 Preview 


       Headland completed the 2022 season with a 6-5 record. With their 2-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region two, the Rams earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Headland's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to UMS-Wright by a score of 56-13.

       The Rams improved in 2022 with their first winning season since 2018. It marked the first time since the 2018 season that the Rams qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Headland has gone a combined 50-83. Their 37.6% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Headland has not won much with a record of 85-170. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 5A and 332nd in the AHSAA.




       The Rams are led by head coach Reginald Melton who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at Headland. The Rams saw improvement from a 2-8 record the season before coach Melton arrived. Under his direction the Rams have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Melton.

       The Rams have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region two this season.

      Jaxon Williams will be back at the quarterback position to lead the offense in 2023.

      Caleb Dozier is a 6-2, 215-pound Tight End and will be returning in 2023.

       The Rams open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Geneva on Friday, August 25 at J.J. Yarbrough Stadium. Last year the Geneva Panthers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 4A region two.

       Headland and Geneva have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Rams have a 10-21-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2022 with Headland winning by a score of 36-28.

      

       The Rams return 5A All-State Senior receiver Caleb Dozier. He was named to the second team last season. The Rams also return Senior athlete Jaxon Williams. He was named to the second team.
