 2017 Preview

Elkmont finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Elkmont finished eighth in Class 3A region eight with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Red Devils lost as many games as in any season since 1989. The defense allowed a team record 405 points last season.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Elkmont averaged scoring just 9.7 points a game. The Red Devils also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.5 points a game.

The Red Devils would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Elkmont has gone a combined 26-47. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Elkmont has managed to compile a record of 113-158. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 3A and 262nd in the AHSAA.

Sean Holt leaves Elkmont after six years with a 22-41 record. His final team in 2016 finished the season with an 0-10 record. His playoff record was 1-2.

Duane Wales, a 1987 graduate of the school, will lead the Elkmont football team in 2017. He has also worked as the defensive coordinator at Clements and held the same position at Ardmore for five seasons.

The Elkmont Red Devils will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2017 season. The Red Devils have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-47 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 3A and 36th in the AHSAA.

The Red Devils enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 10 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Red Devils will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Elkmont will be to simply win some games.

The Red Devils open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Addison on Friday, August 25 at Boss Hill Stadium. Last year the Addison Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 13-1 and in first place in Class 1A region seven. The Bulldogs lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 23-6.

Elkmont and Addison have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 0-3-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2016 with Addison winning by a score of 28-0.
