 2017 Preview

Addison completed the 2016 season with a 13-1 record. The Bulldogs cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Addison captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Bulldogs since the 2006 season. Addison made a nice playoff run in 2016, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Pickens County team by the score of 23-6.

The Bulldogs won as many games as in any season since 2005. The Bulldogs hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Smothers saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 5-6 record in 2015.

The high-scoring Addison offense ranked 31st in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.0 points a game.

Since 2010, Addison has gone a combined 60-21. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Addison has gone a combined 221-80. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 1A and 17th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach David Smothers who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 41-16 over the past five seasons at Addison. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Smothers.

Coach Smothers' overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 41-16 (71.9%).

The Addison Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2017 season.

The Bulldogs enter the 2017 season riding a 10 game regular season winning streak. They have won 10 straight games on their home turf at A.G. Hicks Stadium.

The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Bulldogs are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Bulldogs have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2009 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Bulldogs open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Elkmont on Friday, August 25 at Boss Hill Stadium. Last year the Elkmont Red Devils finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 3A region eight.

Addison and Elkmont have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 3-0-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in 2016 with Addison winning by a score of 28-0.
