Lexington completed the 2016 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region eight, the Golden Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Lexington reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Weaver by a score of 42-0. The Golden Bears won as many games as in any season since 2009. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Madison Academy by a score of 51-13. Lexington and Central Florence have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 17-24-1 record against the Wildcats.
