 2017 Preview

Lexington completed the 2016 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region eight, the Golden Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Lexington reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Weaver by a score of 42-0.

The Golden Bears won as many games as in any season since 2009.

Since 2010, Lexington has gone a combined 43-35. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Lexington has managed to compile a record of 158-130. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 3A and 133rd in the AHSAA.

The Golden Bears are led by head coach Jason Lard who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 43-35 over the past seven seasons at Lexington. Under his direction the Golden Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lard.

Coach Lard's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 43-35 (55.1%).

The Lexington Golden Bears will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2017 season.

The Golden Bears will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2007 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2017.

The Golden Bears open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Central Florence on Friday, August 25 at Wildcats Stadium. Last year the Central Florence Wildcats finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 4A region eight. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Madison Academy by a score of 51-13.

Lexington and Central Florence have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 17-24-1 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2016 with Lexington winning by a score of 27-0.
