 2017 Preview

Clements completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Clements finished sixth in Class 3A region eight with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Colts won as many games as in any season since 2009. The Colts have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2009 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Colts last playoff victory came during the 1988 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Clements averaged scoring just 12.5 points a game.

Since 2010, the Clements football program has struggled with a record of 10-60.

Over the past 25 seasons, Clements has not won much with a record of 71-193. Their 27.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 3A and 360th in the AHSAA. The Colts have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2009.

The Colts are led by head coach Cody McCain who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 6-24 over the past three seasons at Clements. The Colts have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach McCain.

Coach McCain's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 12-38 (24.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach McCain's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

The Clements Colts will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2017 season.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Colts could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Clements has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2009 but hope to return to the post season this year.

The Colts open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Danville on Friday, August 25 at M.T. Newman Stadium. Last year the Danville Hawks finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in sixth place in Class 4A region eight. The Hawks ended last season on a positive note with a win over Cold Springs by a score of 39-28 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Clements and Danville have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Colts have a 10-6-0 record against the Hawks. They last met in 2016 with Danville winning by a score of 26-6.
