2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Brindlee Mountain finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Brindlee Mountain finished seventh in Class 3A region seven with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 419 points last season. The Lions have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Lions have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Brindlee Mountain averaged scoring just 9.0 points a game. The Lions also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 41.9 points a game. The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Brindlee Mountain football program has struggled with a record of 9-61. Over the past 11 seasons, Brindlee Mountain has not won much with a record of 13-97. Their 12.0% winning percentage ranks 59th in Class 3A and 382nd in the AHSAA. The Lions have struggled on the football field with no winning seasons during this time. Matt Self stepped down after two seasons at Brindlee Mountain with a 1-19 record. Keith Garner will lead Brindlee Mountain on the football field in 2017. He has previously been the head coach at Arab, Crossville and J.B. Pennington. Coach Garner's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 35-98 (26.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Garner's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Brindlee Mountain Lions will play in Class 3A region seven during the 2017 season. The Lions enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 19 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Lions will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Brindlee Mountain will be to simply win some games. The Lions open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent J.B. Pennington on Friday, August 25 at Lions Den. Last year the J.B. Pennington Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 3A region six. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Randolph County by a score of 28-6. Brindlee Mountain and J.B. Pennington have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Lions have a 0-6-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with J.B. Pennington winning by a score of 40-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
