Maplesville completed the 2016 season with a 14-0 record. Last year Maplesville captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. The Red Devils reeled off five straight playoff wins to claim the Class 1A State Championship by defeating Pickens County at the Alabama Super Seven 40-12 in Auburn. The high-scoring Maplesville offense ranked 3rd in the AHSAA. They averaged 48.8 points a game. The Red Devils defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 2nd in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 7.2 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Red Devils have gone 27-1 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Maplesville has gone a combined 90-6. Their 94.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Maplesville has gone a combined 254-68. Their 79.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A and 4th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2004. The Red Devils are led by head coach Brent Hubbert who is entering his fourteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 143-23 over the past thirteen seasons at Maplesville. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times. They have won nine region crowns with Coach Hubbert. Over the course of his career, Coach Hubbert's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won nine region championships. He has a 32-12 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. The Red Devils will be chasing history if they can pull off the magical four-peat. They have dominated Class 1A over the past few seasons. The Maplesville Red Devils will play in Class 1A region three during the 2017 season. The Red Devils enter the 2017 season riding a 23 game winning streak. They have also won 13 consecutive regular season games. Maplesville has won 52 consecutive region games. They have won 11 straight games on their home turf at Red Devil Stadium. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Maplesville has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Red Devils enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region three and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 1A Super Seven come December. The Red Devils have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2003 and this year should be no exception. The Red Devils open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Resurrection MS on Friday, September 1. This will be the second meeting between Maplesville and Resurrection MS on the football field. The Red Devils have a 1-0-0 record against Resurrection MS. They last met in with Maplesville returns 1A All-State Senior receiver Nathaniel Watson. He was named to the first team last season. The Red Devils also return Junior linebacker Timothy Bradley.
