 2017 Preview

Linden completed the 2016 season with a 13-1 record. The Patriots cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Linden captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Linden made a nice playoff run in 2016, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Maplesville team by the score of 36-14.

No team at Linden ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The 764 points scored by the Patriots last year were a team record in a single season.

The high-scoring Linden offense ranked 1st in the AHSAA. They averaged 54.6 points a game.

The Patriots defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 4th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 8.6 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Patriots have gone 23-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Linden has gone a combined 75-18. Their 81.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Linden has gone a combined 197-99. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 1A and 44th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 1999.

Andro Williams leaves Linden with a very impressive 110-23 record over the past ten seasons. Every team qualified for a playoff spot and none lost more than four games in a season. He has moved on to W.S. Neal where he will serve as the head football coach.

Demetrice Jackson has been promoted to the head coaching job at Linden in 2017. He has served as an assistant at the school most recently as the defensive coordinator the past two seasons.

He is a graduate of Francis Marion and the son of renowned basketball coach Woodie Jackson.

The Linden Patriots will play in Class 1A region one during the 2017 season.

The Patriots enter the 2017 season riding a 15 game regular season winning streak.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Linden has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Patriots should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2006 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2017.

The Patriots open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Hillcrest Evergreen on Friday, September 1 at Linden Athletic Field. Last year the Hillcrest Evergreen Jaguars finished with an overall record of 5-7 and in fourth place in Class 3A region one. The Jaguars lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Oakman by a score of 33-0.

Linden and Hillcrest Evergreen have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 2-2-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in 2016 with Linden winning by a score of 32-7.
