2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fruitdale finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Fruitdale finished sixth in Class 1A region one with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Fruitdale was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Pirates want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.4 points a game. Since 2010, Fruitdale has gone a combined 24-49. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 24 seasons, Fruitdale has managed to compile a record of 90-154. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 1A and 304th in the AHSAA. Ryan Little leaves Fruitdale after just one season with a 3-7 record. He has accepted a position as the defensive coordinator at Temple High in Georgia. Ryan Little arrives in Fruitdale after spending the past twelve seasons as an assistant at Beulah High in Valley AL. He served as the offensive coordinator at Beulah. The Fruitdale Pirates will play in Class 1A region one during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Pirates could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. Fruitdale missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2017. The Pirates open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Holy Spirit on Friday, August 25 at Arthur Howington Field. Last year the Holy Spirit Saints finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 1A region five. The Saints closed out the regular season with a loss to Northside by a score of 41-0. Fruitdale and Holy Spirit have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Pirates have a 0-2-0 record against the Saints. They last met in 2016 with Holy Spirit winning by a score of 7-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
