 2017 Preview

Hackleburg completed the 2016 season with a 9-3 record. Last year Hackleburg captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Hackleburg reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Hubbertville by a score of 27-22.

As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Hackleburg has gone a combined 61-20. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hackleburg has managed to compile a record of 186-105. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 1A and 60th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2007.

The Panthers are led by head coach Rod Hudson who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 75-21 over the past eight seasons at Hackleburg. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Hudson.

Coach Hudson's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 75-21 (78.1%).

The Hackleburg Panthers will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2017 season.

Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Panthers should be considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Panthers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2007 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

Kaleb Moore returns for his Junior season after completing 65 of 133 passes for 1,308 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for 126 yards. Junior Stone Fincher also returns after rushing for 1,139 yards on 141 carries and scoring 12 TDs.

Senior Evan Crowe returns after rushing for 629 yards on 72 carries and scoring 8 touchdowns. He also caught 24 passes for 504 yards and another seven scores. Senior Matt Harper also returns after rushing for 909 yards on 124 carries and scoring 9 TDs.

The defense returns Junior linebacker Sawyer Lynch who registered 88 tackles and Junior defensive back Stone Fincher who registered 135 tackles last season.

The Panthers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Marion County on Friday, September 1 at Don Jones Field at Bill Rayburn Staduim. Last year the Marion County Red Raiders finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class 1A region five. The Red Raiders closed out the regular season with a loss to Sumiton Christian by a score of 42-20.

Hackleburg and Marion County have met a total of 81 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 32-46-3 record against the Red Raiders. They last met in 2016 with Hackleburg winning by a score of 14-3.

Hackleburg returns 1A All-State Senior offensive lineman Noah Barnett. He was named to the second team last season. The Panthers also return Junior linebacker Stone Fincher. He was named to the second team.
