 2017 Preview 


       Hubbertville completed the 2016 season with a 10-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region five, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Hubbertville lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Addison team by a score of 30-20.

       Since 2010, Hubbertville has gone a combined 63-22. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Hubbertville has managed to compile a record of 152-132. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 1A and 141st in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2008.

       The Lions are led by head coach Lamar Harris who is entering his season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 229-189 over the past thirty-nine seasons at Hubbertville. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of seventeen times. They have won six region crowns with Coach Harris.

       Coach Harris' overall record as a head football coach in thirty-nine season stands at 229-189 (54.8%). His 229 wins rank 1st among active coaches in the AHSAA.

       The Hubbertville Lions will play in Class 1A region five during the 2017 season.

       The Lions should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2009 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2017.

       The Lions open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Meek on Friday, September 1 at Meek Field. Last year the Meek Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 1A region seven.

       Hubbertville and Meek have met a total of 41 times on the football field. The Lions have a 28-13-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Hubbertville winning by a score of 28-0.

Hazlewood won five consecutive state championships from 1988-1992. During this span the Golden Bears won 29 playoff games in a row.
